About Jamie Kelly & YTherapy

Who is Jamie Kelly? I am an HCPC registered Dramatherapist (Arts Psychotherapist). With over 10 years of clinical experience in the field of mental health, addictions and trauma, I have worked in education, healthcare, social care and criminal justice systems.

The Story of YTherapy In 2017, I founded YTherapy so that mental health services could be accessed by more people in the community. This service is for adults affected by childhood and relational trauma (eg. abuse, neglect, violence, separation, loss and bereavement). I am passionate about recovery and am guided by the belief that we all have within ourselves the ability to change, grow and flourish to our full potential when in a safe, non-judgemental and creative environment. I believe in empowering people to take charge of their mental health and wellbeing before reaching a point of crisis.

What is Dramatherapy?

Dramatherapy is creative and holistic in its approach to trauma recovery. If you have been affected by childhood and relational trauma, this creative and holistic approach to counselling and psychotherapy can help you share your story. Dramatherapy can help you to:

  • become more aware of your thoughts, feelings and actions
  • address the root cause of problems
  • understand your past and the way it connects to your present and future
  • explore your identity, the roles you play and your relationships with others

Like more traditional forms of psychotherapy, talking is a key component in Dramatherapy. It is used alongside action-based methods that bring together the mind and body. Together, we use techniques such as: role play, embodiment, movement, art and story-making. It is about using all communications channels when words alone may not be enough. It is also about empowering you to express your emotions safely in a non-judgemental space.
